What is a teen film?
A film where the subject matter is most relevant to teenagers e.g. school, identity, cliques and relationships with parents, friends, boyfriends or girlfriends. It usually presents these issues associated with teens in an exaggerated or stereotypical way.The main genres related with teen movies are action, adventure, romance and comedy. Teen films with romance are preferred by a female audience whereas movies with comedy, action and adventure are enjoyed by a general audience.
Who watches teen films?
The main target audience for teen films are teenagers from
12 to early 20's although anyone can watch them. They are also watched by younger children from ages 7+ who want to be teenagers and older people who still watch teen films from their youth. The audience for a teen film depends on the film; more serious films will be enjoyed by an older audience whereas more comical, whimsy films are enjoyed by mid-teens.
Why do we enjoy watching teen films?
Teenagers often enjoy watching teen films as it relates to events in their life. We often watch teen films to see how characters in the film deal with the problem and try to apply it to our problems. The films often have comedic value where anyone can watch and enjoy it.
