Shot by Shot Remake Task

Task:- Re-shoot the opening to the film 'THE BREAKFAST CLUB'

The opening scene to The Breakfast Club

The first shot is an establishing shot of the high school entrance where there is a voiceover of a boy speaking till just before the BMW car scene.

Then a series of shots of the school wall clock, the empty corridor, the empty canteen line, the student store, a plank of wood that has "I'm eating my head" scratched onto it, a row of lockers where the one opened and half spilled out is zoomed into in cut., a school newspaper, on a brick blue wall, "I don't like MONDAYS" is also engraved onto the wall, trophies in a cabinet graffiti on the walls, rubbish on the stairs, the auditorium room with a sign that says "SENIOR SPIRIT SOARS", an open notebook in which doodles fill the page with the word 'HELP' standing out, a row of 'Man of the year' photos, an empty computer room, a messy boys changing room, a view of the guidance counsellors desk with the name and several psychological images, a sign promoting 'Prom Queen', and a tilt close up shot descending of a locker with the words 'Open this locker… AND YOU DIE, FAG!!!' written on it and then a tilt shot ascending of a BMW silver car.

Arriving on screen, the 'princess' dressed in a nice brown leather jacket is seen in a BMW passenger seat with her father which we can associate with rich people. Then she speaks to her father where her father responds to her in a calm way implying she can just go shopping after. Handing her what looks like a shopping bag as well as their overall appearance shows just how easily accessible money is to her and her family.

When the brain arrives, he is seen with his mother and little brother in a working class car where he is shouted at by his mother telling him to find any possible way of studying where his younger sister joins in the argument with an annoyingly said "Yeah!"

When the jock arrives onto the screen, he is seen in an SUV/pick up truck with his father who doesn't look entirely rich with his attire and car itself. He is seen to be in a position of scolding as he is about to go to detention and left by his father who drives off.

Walking towards the camera straight across the road with a possibility of getting run over we see a mysteriously looking guy with sunglasses and a long coat, this gives a sense of rebellion even as he does not flinch when the car stops centimetres away from him. He is long haired and tall telling us he's going to be trouble and quite scary. The criminal also shows his dominance inside when he takes the brain's seat and pulls the chair out for his feet to rest on. Walking to school alone implies that he his parents do not really care for him as he journeys to school alone.

The basket case  appears last on arrival which emphasises the fact that she is the quiet and misunderstood one who wants to be unseen as she scurries of to the back in the library. As well as this, she somewhat walks towards the tinted front window when the car suddenly drives off conveying that the parents that drove her there did not really care about her and this rejection gives her a personality that is quite timid and weird. Her overall appearance is dark and this keeps her hidden as an individual among the crowd.

The all end up in the library where they find seats among the rows and columns of chairs. The professor then in introduced into the scene addressing the students in saturday detention.
