Representation of stereotypes

 

 

 

 

Representations use stereotypes to convey ideas about "types of characters". Stereotypes are elaborate exaggerations. They are not real but are completely constructive. Representations are constructed through costumes, lighting, camera, sounds, music, actions, and props. These stereotypes used, give the viewers an insight into the character's personality.

The movie "Not another teen movie" is an example of   stereotypical characters. The key elements portrays about the characters are just exaggerated.

 

Chris Evans played (Jake Wyler)

·         He is the jock/ the popular boy

·         He wears nice trainers and a baseball jacket

·         He has a nice sports car and a rock sack

·         He has nice blue eyes and a nice hair cut

    ·         She is the pretty/ ugly girl

    ·         She wears glasses

    ·         Has her hair tied back

    ·         Has a rock sack

    ·         Stereotypes appear in other movies such as “ a Cinderella story , high school musical, she’s all that”

·         He was the token black guy

·         He had an afro

·        Exaggerated actions and  remarks

·      Characters like Malik appears in films such “good burger, white chicks, American pie”

 

Lacey Chalbert played (Amanda Becker)

     ·         She was the perfect girl

     ·         She had styled hair

     ·         Modest but nice

     ·         Slim figure

·         When she is being introduced at the beginning she had a gold glowing light behind her and she was walking in slow motion down the stairs which is one aspect of editing.

     ·         She is portrayed as a polite girl

                          ·         Similarly her personality emerged in other movies such                     as  the  girl next door and 10 things I hate about you”

 

 

Jaime Pressly played Priscilla

·         She was the cheerleader

·         She had blond hair

·         She was wearing all pink

·         She has a slim figure

·         She is in a girl group

·         Other examples of movies that portrays her character are “mean girls, grease, bring it on”
