Rough Cut - Evaluation

I believe that overall our rough cut Is looking good and sound good. As the costume designer I like what the characters are wearing. I like the song however it just gets boring after a while therefore it should be changed. I personally don't like the scene where Cain is shaking hands with Lea because there's a bin just underneath them and it does not look attractive at all. To add to this teenagers don't really shake hands. The action taken in that scene is unrealistic therefore the action needs to be just taken out. The tittle sequence could also be framed in a better way. Apart from that  I like the fact that we included a range of camera shots taking from different angles leaving our rough cut looking diverse and eye catching already. With more improvements on it everyone will love it the final cut.

Rough Cut - Evaluation

I think the rough cut of our opening scene is quite good. We used a range of shots throughout which I think shows our ability to incorporate different shots and shows that we understand their uses in a scene. I think the editing is also quite good as each shot flows into the next. One shot did not cut into the next straight away and left the screen blank which is something we will be modifying in the editing. We also need to change the font sizes for the title sequence so that the job title is in bold and the persons name is in lower case to make it look more interesting and follow other films title sequences. I believe our teachers and peers were right about the music being too repetitive so we will change it completely to one song that will run in the background but will also range in volume and beats. My favourite scenes are the flashbacks as the Senis who is playing Leah managed to create believable reactions to Cain and the situations they are put in. In conclusion, I believe that the editing and acting from our rough cut is quite good, however, the editing could be tighter and the music could be more interesting to ensure that the audience do not get bored.

Rough Cut - Evaluation

I think overall, the rough cut proves to be quite good as the scenes were shot quite well and the edits look quite seamless but there is room for improvement. I think that the sound becomes draggy towards the end of the two minutes as well as the lighting. I think that the lighting could have been improved but with the clips that we have, the storyline looks very believable. My favourite parts are the scenes where Leah (Senis) shows quirky yet believable reactions despite it not being planned. I think it adds character to the opening scene. Also, i really like the font, colour and the simplicity of the credits as it makes it look professional. I also like where the credits have been placed as it frames the shots quite nicely. I also think in order to improve for the future, we should consider the timing of each shot so there is space for more tight edits. Overall, I think it's pretty good but there are things that need to be changed to  create a better film.

Rough Cut - Evaluation

On the whole I think the rough cut of our opening scene of 'CAIN' is quite good however there are a few changes needed to be made when editing the final cut. According to the feedback we got from our teachers and peers the most common problem was the music that we've used. As a group we have decided that this will need to be changed as we also realised it gets quite boring towards the end of the opening scene due to the beat repeating itself a few times. Watching the rough cut we noticed a rendering error that had occurred when editing which would need to be resolved in the near future. Moreover we were advised to cut out a shot that had been taken in the library because the action was unrealistic. We will overlook this advice when editing for the final cut. Another issue addressed by our teachers was the font and positioning of the title sequence on screen therefore me and my group members decided to make changes to the colour, size and the positioning of the titles/credits. Finally I believe we did a good job in producing our rough cut as it contained good photography and a variety of shots and effects in transitions.

Music research on sound cloud and sound effects

We searched through common sounds to find a song that would go well with our clip. Most of the songs listed are available for us to use for free and some we can use by giving credit to the artist. The songs listed below, we felt, would work well with our opening scene but we had to choose one. We decided to use Sad Piano Instrumental by Herzschmerz as we felt it set a sad tone that was not overly depressing to listen to.

Lonely Souls (Sad Theme) by Ramases B

Calm Storm by Gill Chang

Rough Cut Feedback - Changes

- MUSIC : A much more dynamic music track would reduce lack of drawing the audience in

- TITLE SEQUENCE (appearance) : Change font, colour and case where appropriate and suitable

- EDITING (tighter) - Add and reduce to shots for better match cuts.

- SCENE CUTS (shaking hands/introduction) : this deems as unnecessary as this scene is quite unrealistic and can end much more interestingly if cut earlier.

Thankfully, we do not need to re-film any scenes as the feedback indicated that we just need to make the editing tighter and change the length of some of the shots we already have.

Pitch Feedback - Changes

LOCATION:-

- Trafalgar Square :

Instead of using the park as the established 'lonely' place before the flashback scenes are edited into the opening, we took Mary's advice to input irony within showing how lonely someone can still be in a busy crowd or location therefore we decided on going to Trafalgar Square to film with a large number of people in the background that would prove to create a better shot for the 'present'. We also thought about asking for permission to film and whether it was possible or not, we would decided then where we could film in another public and busy place.

SOUND:-

- No voice over :

Mary and ourselves thought that the voiceover may or may not be needed as the scenes shot are self-explanatory and is enough. Also, it would save in time for better editing etc.

MISE EN SCENE:-

- Characters :

Extra characters and roles to be played by actors would be decided on set when needed or necessary

- Props :

Extra or initial props added or discarded would be decided on set when needed or necessary

After pitch feedback change

In our presentation/ pitch  someone asked if only one of our group members will be involved in our two mitunes opening of the film. In response to that we said that I was going to play Leah's ( Senis) best friend. However when we started filming we realised that if I was to be included in the film opening it would make the film longer than required as more scenes would have had to be included and we were running out of time to film those. Therefore I am no longer playing the best friend and I am certainly not included in our film opening anymore. I think this was actually the best decision because its not about how much characters there are in a film or the quantity of  a film. What matters most is the quality of our film and so far the editing process of our film is looking good.

Own Film - Title Sequence

In Order of Appearance:-

- Production Company: Moon Productions
- Distribution Company: AGroup38 Film
- Film Title: Cain
- Cast: Senis Istek, Caleb Johnson
- Casting by: MJ Palad
- Costume Designer: Brenda Agossou-Coffi
- Music: Herzschmerz
- Kat Dennings
- Editor: Roma Jade C. Palad
- Producer: Yasminn Brown
- Writer: Rhian Louise Vacciana
- Director: Richard Moore

We chose to use this list instead of the conventional title sequence due to our main inspiration from the film JUNO. I also think these are all that is relevant to our film and therefore we stuck with these and chose to remove certain roles i.e. Director of photography. We only mentioned our two main characters as the movie is based mainly around these characters and does not feature any others.

Own Film - Editing

The person in charge of editing was RJ. We all gave our own input if we thought something did not work well or look right so it was still a group effort. We believe that because of the editing our opening film sequence turned out really well.

To be able to overlay some sounds we had to search some sound effects in the sound resources folder. We found the sounds on here quite helpful as we used footstep and crowd sounds from this folder.  Once we played around with the frequencies and volume of the sound effects we found out that the sounds fit in well with our opening scene.

Out-takes and Deleted Scenes

Behind the Scenes Photos

These are some photos we took on the first day of filming in Trafalgar Square. We took photo's as evidence of our filming and to show that we were careful with the equipment.

These photos were taken on our second day of filming. Filming only took two days as we knew where we wanted to shoot each scene and what shots we needed.

I was in charge of the costume for the characters.  Therefore I used the storyboard to help me decide on what should be worn. Without the storyboard it would have been impossible because costumes had to be decided according to the weather, place, role, gender, personality of the characters. For example I couldn't decide whether to make a character wear a fancy dress if she supposed to be in college as college requires casual clothing unless the character is a princess/popular girl. I chose dark clothes for the present Leah as the colours reflect her current mood in out film opening. I used lighter coloured clothes for the flashbacks as it created a good contrast between her emotions in the present and the past.

Own Film - Prezi Presentation Final

Own Film - Prezi Presentation

These are the screenshots from our prezi before we pitched it to our teacher and peers. It contains our initial ideas which may change depending on the feedback we get such as the sound, locations and costume.

Own Film - Storyboard Final

Own Film - Storyboard

I decided to make the storyboard by hand as I felt it would be easier to depict the storyline for our film. I have placed some shots in the same frame to conserve space and show the transition from one shot to another. When we record our film we will try to follow the storyboard and what is happening in each scene.
