"Cain" film opening

" Cain " storyboard

Bad education

To start with I must say that our film opening "Cain" is way better than our prelim of "bad education in numerous ways.

We were given a script to work with and  only had a small amount of time when talking about our prelim. We had a day to plan and a day to film so it took us approximately two days to put together the prelim. This explains why the prelim looks rushed and not working on well enough . We didn't get to plan it properly and if we were to do it again are lot of things to improve. In terms of camera we did not include a lot of close ups and closes are so important when talking about film making. We did not really follow the third rule or the 180 degree rule. This could have been improved. On the other hand in terms of the editing it was smooth enough. It was quite sharp. The match cuts were kind of jumpy and obvious. Further more the lighting was really bad for some reason and  it just makes it hard to keep watch. To add to this I personally look back at the costume that I was and I just find it really ridiculous. I was playing the role of a man teacher. It is true that we didn't have any boys in our group and I had no choice but to play that role however the least I could have is to dress looking more like a man as costume tells a lot about a character but instead I wore a belt looking even more girly then usual. Lastly the props around the office made the video look really stuffed and it was not a good look. The location in which we filmed in could have been tidied a little before film. Our only problem when I look back at that prelim is that we didn't plan it properly and like I said before it really rushed. Our knowledge of how  equipment and software work was really limited explain the low budgets short remake of our prelim. There was no distribution company or production company made as technical it was not our on film but a remake.

In contrast we had enough amount time to plan and put together our own film. There was a lot of plan done for our film opening. We made  a presentation of our ideas on our film and got feedback from peers and teachers at first . Our storyboard was also drawn and it was detailed included good amount of close ups and other important shots and I must say it is way better than our prelim storyboard. We made a lot of improvements as people watched our rough cut and gave us feedback on how to improve. Everything was just step by step toughly planned. The shots were carefully filmed. We followed the 180 degree / the third rule. Additionally the editing was on point and way better than the prelim. Our  film opening was smoothly edited and the match cuts were not obvious because they were coved up with the flashback effect. The only sounds we included was music and couple of sound effects and those were was clear and loud enough. It is such a coincidence that in our prelim my costume was really bad and in our film opening I took the role of a costume designer. However I had no regrets of the clothes the main characters wore in our film opening. This time we had a male actor so  none of my group members  had to act the boy character. It would have been awkward if that was the case. Location in our film opening of Cain were nice and tidy. The library wasn't messy. The books on the book shelf was nice arranged. We kept the locations simple instead of really crowded and stuffed. Over time we learned a lot and improved in a lot explain why our knowledge and skills of using technologies, software, and websites are advanced.  Furthermore we actually made a production and distribution company for our film because this wasn't a remake but "OUR FILM OPENING". To conclude I must say that we would have never pulled it off if we only had two days.

Overall I learnt how to edit, make production and distribution companies, I learn how to use technologies efficiently.  To add to this all the software used to make, put together and advertised our film openings are familiar to me. I enjoyed advertising our finished film on social networks such as instagram and working with my group . I had to learn to listen to them, plan everything with them. We are like a family now  and I gained the team work skills because we worked well together and we made this whole product successful.
